Introduction of Changfu Elementary School
Changfu Elementary School is located in Guoxing Township, Nantou County, at the junction of Xinshe and Heping Districts in Taichung City. The parents of students in the school district mostly live by farming and part-time jobs. The proportion of single parents, grandparent family, and new immigrants is quite high in this area. Due to the lack of employment opportunities, most of the residents are elderly, and it is a small, typical rural school.
This school is located in the countryside, and people here are all full of compassion and kindness. It’s about a 10-minute drive from downtown and a 40-minute drive from Taichung metropolitan area. The transportation is not convenient, but it is not far from the metropolitan area.
There are mahogany trees more than 50 years old in the Changu campus. After the 921 earthquakes, the rebuilder, Mr. You Biaorong, insisted to preserve the mahogany, but only process a small pruning, even all the school building need to be reconstructed. These mahogany woods not only witnessed Changfu’s founding and school history, but also have a very close relationship with the students. Playing under the trees, chasing and watching the leaves falling with the wind, and picking up samara among the fallen leaves... are all the common memories of all the children of Chang fu.
Although located in a remote village, Chang Fu has an extremely stable team of teachers. Nearly half of the members have served in Chang Fu for more than 20 years. In recent years, the number of students in Chang Fu Elementary School is less than half a hundred, but thanks to the efforts of the team, the school has won numerous awards, especially the Ministry of Education's Reading Rock competition, teaching excellence, and artistic contribution.
In addition to news often mention about Chang Fu Elementary School, many elementary schools and teachers counseling groups from Kaohsiung City, Taichung City, and Hsinchu County, have visited the school. In addition, teachers and students from colleges and universities often visit the school. The Houston Education Commissioner, the Director of the Russian Office in Taiwan, has visited school and reported by the Russian TV station. The school's courses are all quite affirmative. Russian university students have also come to the school to learn the experience education courses and carry out the cultural exchanges.
Due to the rich local resources, complete curriculum development, teachers’ active attitude and response to the needs of the times, the school has been striving towards a model school for curriculum and teaching. It is also hoped that through experimental education, it will provide a model for the next generation of curriculum reform, opening up and serve Nantou Education Authorities. After more than two years of preparation and hard work, the 110-112 academic year will be transformed into a "Public school-based Experimental Education ". It is also the first "Public school –based Experimental education" for experimental education of non-aboriginal school in Nantou County (currently there are 2 experimental education institutions for aboriginal school in Nantou County).
Chang Fu Elementary School – Exploring Challenge International Experimental education will focus on "Exploring Challenge and Global Vision". In terms of "Exploring Challenge", curriculum development is based on the spirit of expeditionary learning (EL), using learner-centered models such as problem-oriented, topic-based, inquiry, task-oriented, and experiential learning to provide students with real learning situations and experiences . In terms of "Global Vision", it actively signed sister schools with the "Starlight International Experimental Education Institution" for exchange activities. In addition, it is also equipped with experimental and innovative courses to develop language learning content and increase opportunities for English learning and use in activities. It is also hoped that there will be more opportunities for cooperation with foreign English teachers in the future.
